Due to the difficult economic situation in Tanzania, which has dragged on for many years, millions of people live in poverty and have no hope of ever rising above their current situation. AIDS has decimated the working population and has resulted in over a million orphans. Over 35% of the population, live below the poverty line. The need is so great that it is overwhelming and as such it seems too difficult for individuals to attempt to solve or be involved in.

Over 10 years ago, Pastor Glorious and Josephine Shoo saw the desperate need of the poor and needy children in their neighborhood. They understood that one permanent and effective way of combating the extreme poverty around them, was through quality education balanced with loving care and faith. They began to open their home and to love and educate local street children – one by one the children came and their lives and futures were changed forever.

ZOE GIRLS

At a separate site next to the Fountain of Hope Nursery School, the Zoe Girls Secondary School students (form 1 and 2) are educated and cared for. These girls at the request of their parents or due to circumstances, prefer a 'girls only' education for these two levels and then they are integrated with the mainstream FOH Secondary school. There are on average 45 girls enrolled in Zoe Girls, they study the same subjects as the Form 1 and 2 mainstream secondary school and also sit a national exam in Form 2 to ensure they qualify for Form 3.
In addition to their studies, the Secondary School students of both campuses, are also voluntarily involved in the Fountain of Love programme which involves street evangelism, prison ministry and hospital visitations among other activities. A number of students are also actively involved in the worship band, dance and drama groups and open air crusade ministries.
